Iran, US express cautious optimism after second round of nuclear talks in Geneva

Iran says it’s reached an understanding with the US on the “main principles” to resolve the dispute over its nuclear programme.
Both sides expressed some optimism after a second round of indirect talks in Geneva.
Washington insists Tehran cannot have a nuclear weapon and warns military action is still an option if a deal isn’t made.
US Vice President JD Vance told American media that Iran is not ready to acknowledge Washington’s red lines.

Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian repeated that Tehran is not seeking to build a nuclear weapon.
But he says his country should be allowed to pursue nuclear technology for civilian purposes.

Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar has more from Tehran, Iran.

Mostafa Khoshcheshm is a professor at the University of Applied Sciences.
He says while there’s some optimism, it’s worth waiting to see how future meetings play out.
